Bridge in Amsterdam by night
I do love Amsterdam, Venice of the North. It's a city that I have visited on several occasions. I love the inner city, with the canals, houseboats and beautiful bridges like this one. If you ever get the chance, visit Amsterdam. Photo by: Jacob Surland, http://www.caughtinpixels.com

Roman Sunrise
After a morning of shooting photos in Rome, we ended up at the Roman Forum at sunrise. Roman Forum, is the old center of ancient Rome. Ceasars held speaches, the triumphs of the Roman Empire were celebrated here. It was the main street of Ancient Rome. It's an incredible interesting place. However, we were too early, to get in, and we had seen it already, now we just shot it. Even if we didn't plan for it, we got a sunrise, with the Sun rising exactly above the Colosseum.

In the heart of Copenhagen lies the ill named New Port. A long time ago it was the new port, but as years has passed by, New Port has turned into a very port full. This is the place to go for cold beer on hot summer day or grab a traditional danish meal. A great place that must be seen. Photo by: Jacob Surland, http://www.caughtinpixels.com

Fleeing birds
Birds flee from the Church of Hallgrim. In Danish Hallgrim means 'half ugly', hopefully, that's not why the bird flees. The Church is named after a poet from the 17th century, and perhaps he should be happy, that he wasn't completely ugly, but only half ugly. Photo by: Jacob Surland, http://www.caughtinpixels.com

Nyhavn Just Before Sunrise
On this particular morning, I saw the craziest wild colored sunrise, but I never saw the Sun itself. I saw it shine on the city behind me, but before it got clear of the horizon, it disappeared behind clouds. Really weird. This photo is from Nyhavn in Copenhagen. While Nyhavn means New Harbor, it is an old harbor today. Photo by: Jacob Surland, http://www.caughtinpixels.com. Licensed Creative Commons, Non-Commercial, no derivatives v4.0.

Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle in Paris is worth a visit, alone because of the building. I had some expectations but I was still completely blown away when I got there. So incredibly beautiful and dynamic lighting for a fantastic room. I only had 1,5 hours before it closed, and I didn't even get time to see the exhibition.

Amstel by night
During the day canal Amstel is a busy area, with lots of bots in the canal. I guess all canal tours go through here, because it connects some of the interesting areas of Amsterdam. In the far distance you can see the Nationale Opera and Ballet of the Netherlands. On the right there is the Hotel Amstelzicht, which I have stayed at a couple of times.

Gullfoss in Iceland
Travelling in Iceland brings you around to see the some of the most amazing wonders that Earth has to offer. If you are staying in the capital Reykjavik, you can go on a trip by car or arranged, that covers the Golden Circle, which brings you to Geysir, Gullfoss and Thingvellir. The Great Geysir rarely erupts now a days, but Strokkur which is right next to The Great Geysir, will erupt every few minuts. It will go as high as 35 m. In the photo you see the great waterfall Gullfoss (the Golden Falls). It's an amazingly big water fall that falls in two large falls as you can see and it looks like the water just plunges into Earth. The last stop of the Golden Circle (or first depending on which way you drive) is the old historical and cultural center Thingvellir. This vikings used to use the area for it's parliamentary discussions. However, Thingvellir is also interesting from a geological point of view, because it is lies at crest of the mid-atlantic ridge. There's a great cliff ridge that marks the edge.CliffsCloudsEdgeGullfossHDRHigh Dynamic RangeIceIcelandLinesND filterWaterWater Fall

Little Cottage on the Harbor
I was out to photograph Nyhavn and the waterfront in Copenhagen when I suddenly saw this little cottage, surrounded by candles.
The sign above the door says Skerpi. I didn't know what a Skerpi was, and googled it. It's a small house on wheels that you can move around. In this case, a gourmet restaurant called "Koks" from the Faroe Islands has a popup restaurant in Copenhagen. What a cool concept.

A few things have fascinated me ever since I was a boy. The Colosseum is one of them. I had seen it once before, but never photographed it seriously, and I was looking very much forward to photograph it this time. But I seem to suffer from a disease. The scaffolding disease. I have a long list of World famous locations I have seen, covered in scaffolding. However, the Coloseum is big, and they had not covered everything. I managed to get this shot, without too much scaffolding.

I always thought that Strasbourg was German, but it is French. There is something about the name that has a German ring to it. It is right on the borders of Germany. We went from Strasbourg to Schwarzwald in Germany on a rainy day. The old center of Strasbourg is amazing. There are canals and dams and locks to raise boats from one level to the next. We did take a canal tour, I just love canal tours, because you see a lot of a city, from the water side.

Speicherstadt in Hamburg is an absolutely gorgeous piece of architecture. It's like a ghost trade harbor. A hundred years ago, this was an extremely busy area. Nowadays it's a mixture of offices and living quarters. But late at night, it's a quiet area.
The houses are built on wooden pillars, just like they are in Venice. In 2015, it was included as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
