London Tower Bridge and Blue River Thames

Don't worry, River Thames was just as muddy as ever. One of the reasons I love post-processing so much is because I can do whatever I like. I am not married to reality, like a documentarist. I am an artist. I process my photos until I get something I like. I don't particularly like a muddy river, and the blue one looks much better. Photo by: Jacob Surland, http://www.caughtinpixels.com

Iceland is a wonderland, with some similarities to a country like New Zealand, I think. Iceland sits on the mid-Atlantic ridge, which explains the vulcanic activity they have. They have fields of lava, and geysirs, the oldest known in the world. They have an amazingly beautiful nature, but they also have beautiful modern constructions, like this The Sun Voyager, or Sólfar as it's called in Icelandic. • Scoop the Shard

    Scoop the Shard

The scoop in London offers many interesting compositions. In this photo, I included the Shard, tallest building in Europe. I have got a weak spot for glass buildings at night. I think they look awesome. On this particular night, there is a light drizzle. A wet surface affects how the colors and light shows. It is not wet enough for reflections, but enough to make the colors deeper and darker.

    The Strip by Night

Las Vegas the never sleeping city. Las Vegas, a city in the middle of Nevada Desert far from everything and incredible hot. One could wonder why on earth a city having a population of 2 million people lies in the middle of the desert. The answer goes all the way back to the Spanish Trail, an old trade route going from California to Santa Fe around Grand Canyon. And Las Vegas had water and became a natural place to pass. Later the casinos and the mafia did their part to increase the population. Photo by: Jacob Surland, http://www.caughtinpixels.com

Scotland - Loch Lomond with a streak of light

Through The Arcanum I am acquiring new skills to composite photos. I shot this, or rather these three, photos only a month after I got my first full frame DSLR, and started on my journey as a photographer. I never got around to publish this one, because the sky was too boring. But when I learned how to composite photos, I took two other cloud scapes from the same day, only an hour or two later, and replaced the flat grey mist with these two. One on the left and one on the right hand side. Then I added some divine light :-). Photo by: Jacob Surland, http://www.caughtinpixels.com

  • One for Greco

    One for Greco

We visited Milan quite by accident. Milan has some pretty awesome things to photograph. I really love these vintage trams. I saw this one on the way back to the hotel. Anyway, how do you get to Milan by accident? Well, we had planned a train trip to Venice, but there was a train strike in Germany, and we had to find other means of transport to get to Venice. As it turned out, plane tickets were insanely expensive to Venice, on the dates that matched our hotel booking. While plane tickets for Milan, on the other hand, were quite cheap. If we stayed for the night on our way to Venice and back again, we got everything included for the same price, as the refunded train tickets. Square and Campanile

The Campanile in Venice, as it stands today, is a reconstruction from 1912. The previous tower had collapsed in 1902, after almost 400 years. There has been a tower at that location on Piazza San Marco all the way back to the 9th century. Venice has an amazingly long history.
