Zenith at Cutty Sark
The old Sail Ship Cutty Sark, is placed in a dock in Greenwich Village, London. The old ship sailed with tea and was build in 1869. A few years a ago a fire destroyed some of it, but not more, than it could be repeared. I happened to pass the ship at 12 o'clock and the Sun stood just at the top of the masts. Many level city by surprise
We stopped in for the night in Lausanne in Switzerland. We took the metro a few stops and when we got out, we took the lift a few stories up. On the way we passed a building with a Dancing class. It felt like something from a science fiction movie, where you pass up through an underground city. When we got out, we were on street level, but we could also look down maybe 6 stories to another street level. And the underground metro runs in between as you can see. It's nick named the most beautiful balcony in Europe. Luxemburg is both modern and an old city, with a grand history of war, money and politics. Mont Saint Michel, one of frances most important tourist attractions, with a history that spands for more than a 1000 years. It's a monastery built like a fortress in on an island. Due to the tide, it's some times an island and sometimes you can walk all the way to it, however you should only do it with a guide because of the danger of quicksand. The Spaniards Inn in Hampstead, London, is an old fantastic pub dating back to 1585. Quite possible the oldest pub I have ever been to. Tatev Monastery in the morning
Driving to Tatev Monastery is one of the more scary things I have done in my life, and I wasn't even prepared for it. The president of Armenia were to give a speech later that day, at Tatev Monastery, so we had to get up very early and drive there in a van, while it was still dark. To get there, you had to drive to the bottom of a canyon, and the gravel road had a ton of hairpins. The driver apparently knew this road by heart. He didn't feel it particularly necessary to look at the road. I wasn't too sure about that. While driving, he looked back into the van while telling stories, and at the same time he texted on his phone. When we got to the bottom and crossed a bridge, he pointed out a car, lying on the roof a bit further down in the absolute bottom of the canyon. He told it fell down the day before, and two people got killed. That didn't affect his driving though and did do anything to make me feel any safer. Scary experience. Aller House in Copenhagen
A fisheye lens lets you do some pretty wild things, like this close-up, of a tall building. Even standing very as close as I was, I was able to include all of the building. I shot this photo of the Aller House in Copenhagen, using my Sony A7R and my sweet old Nikon 16mm fisheye lens. The Aller Building is one of the more spectacular new buildings in the Harbor of Copenhagen. It's located right next to the shopping mall Fisketorvet.

Sometimes history just is amazing, and one 'old' is turned into another 'old'. Hans Christian Andersen (the author 'The ugly Duckling" etc) was one of the first, to suggest to preserve the old castle. In my perception preservation is something you do 'now', but of course 'now' is ever changing. Hans Christian Andersen suggested this around 1830.
The old castle had it's time of pride, and one of the most famous kings in Denmark Christian IV spend a large part of his childhood here, that was in the 16th century. However, a terrible fire in 1808 burned half the castle almost to the ground. The castle wasn't restored until the 1970s.
This magnificient library survived the terrible fire.

On this particular morning, I saw one of the most crazy-colored pre-sunset I have ever seen. I have a bunch of wildly colored photos from that morning; this is one of the last ones I shot. I used a Sundial App called "Sunseeker" to figure out what time of the year to shoot a photo, with a sunrise almost behind 'Operaen' in Copenhagen. First time I tried, I missed the Sun by a 45-degree angle more or less.
Anyway, the funny thing about this sunrise is that I never did see the Sun. You can see how close it is to the horizon. I even saw it shine buildings behind me, but seconds later, it went up behind the clouds, not to show itself again and the magic was gone. Sometimes you get some strange sunrise experiences, and that is one of the things I love most about photography. Unexpected experiences. Photo by: Jacob Surland, http://www.caughtinpixels.com.
